M's Mackinaw Cruiser
Description
Filson Men's Mackinaw Cruiser
Originally patented in 1914 for timber surveyors working long days in Pacific Northwest forests, the Filson Men's Mackinaw Cruiser is one of the most enduring workwear jackets ever made. More than a century later, its core design remains largely unchanged — a testament to how well it was engineered from the start. This special-release edition is faithful to a 1948 archive design, offering a rare combination of historical authenticity and rugged, field-proven performance.
The jacket is constructed from dense Mackinaw Wool, a heavyweight natural fiber celebrated for its ability to block wind, shed snow, and retain warmth even when wet. Unlike synthetic insulators, Mackinaw Wool provides reliable temperature regulation in cold, damp conditions — exactly the environment this jacket was built for. The wool's weight and tight weave give the Cruiser a structured, durable hand that softens and conforms with wear.
The pocket layout is one of the Mackinaw Cruiser's most distinctive and purposeful design elements. Four front cargo pockets are individually cut and sewn with beveled corners, with the left-side pockets oversized and vertically offset to accommodate tools and notepads of varying sizes. Smaller overlaid utility pockets were originally sized for a compass, pens, or a pipe. All snap-flap cargo pockets are single-entry from the top. A full-width reach-through back pocket — originally designed for survey maps and charts — is equally practical today for gloves or bulky gear.
Period-accurate details include enameled snaps consistent with vintage production, and a body length cut an inch shorter than standard Cruiser models, staying true to the original 1948 fit. This is a working jacket built with the precision of archival craftsmanship.
